We have a Supreme Court vacancy during a presidential election? Read the articles below:
What Would Scalia Want in His Successor? A Dissent Offers Clues
Congress Girds for What It Loves Most: A Battle Royal Over Supreme Court Pick
Potential Supreme Court Nominees
Two assignments:
1- Write a Letter to the Editor explaining your opinion on whether or not the Senate should hold hearings for President Obama's nominee. In addition, suggest a potential nominee and argue for why that person should be nominated to serve on the court. The letter should be emailed to [email protected] and a copy of it placed into your google folder. Due Thursday, 2/18. Be sure to include your address and phone number at the bottom of the letter. (published letters receive extra credit points)
2- Create a puppet pal presentation, animated video, or live person video arguing for a specific nominee to the court. Remember, the Constitution doesn't specify who can be a Supreme Court Justice, so you can go in any direction you want here. Due Friday, 2/19. Presentation should be no longer than 2 minutes.
